Knitting is one of the most widely used textile forming processes. Unlike woven fabrics, knitted fabrics do not require sizing during production, eliminating the need for additional desizing steps in dyeing pre-treatment. However, conventional pre-treatment methods still rely heavily on chemicals such as caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide, which conflict with clean production standards. BBT's RF838-K enzyme preparation replaces chemical treatments with bio-catalysis, enabling gentle finishing that eliminates bleaching requirements for dark-colored fabrics—effectively reducing processing steps, lowering emissions, and high quality.
The conventional pre-treatment process for knitted fabrics primarily consists of four steps: scouring, bleaching, neutralization and de-bleaching, and polishing. Both knitted and woven fabrics are composed of natural fibers that inherently contain natural impurities such as pectin, plant waxes, and lignin, as well as mine oil residues from the weaving machinery. These impuritiescan interfere with subsequent dyeing processes and therefore must be removed through scouring. The scouring step involves adding scouring agents and wetting agents and operating at 70°C for 30 minutes.
Since the fabric itself is not pure white, bleaching is required to ensure the final color matches the dye solution precisely. Bleaching methods include full bleaching and half-bleaching: full bleaching is suitable for light-colored knitted fabrics, while half-bleaching suffices for dark-colored fabrics. During bleaching, caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, and stabilizers are added, which make the dye bath alkaline; residual hydrogen peroxide can also interfere with subsequent polishing and dyeing processes. Therefore, glacial acid is added to adjust the pH, and catalase is employed to remove hydrogen perxoide . The extensive use of acids and alkalis not only increases wastewater treatment costs but also poses health risks to workers.
To address the limitations of conventional dyeing processes, BBT has developed the Bio-scouring enzyme RF838-K, which simplifies pre-treatment steps. Bio-scouring enzyme RF838-K enzyme formulationcontaining modified pectinase can replace conventional scouring agents and wetting agents. RF838-K exhibits high efficiency in decomposing pectin; it completes scouring within 30 minutes at 55°C without requiring wastewater discharge, and the process allows direct heating for plant wax removal. Knitted fabrics treated with RF838-K meet dark-dyeing requirements without additional bleaching, thereby eliminating the need for caustic soda or hydrogen peroxide. For light-colored knitted fabrics, this innovative enzymatic process significantly reduces chemical bleaching usage and shortens processing time.
In conclusion, adopting the RF838-K textile enzyme preparation as a replacement for conventional pre-treatment methods offers distinct advantages in optimizing processing procedures, reducing energy consumption, minimizing environmental impact, and enhancing product quality, thereby providing enterprises with a sustainable solution for green production.
