Ready-made denim garments available on the market are soft and skin-friendly. However, raw denim fabric is woven from cotton yarn. Sizing is applied to denim during weaving, followed by indigo dyeing. After sizing and dyeing, sizing agents and dyestuffs remain on the fabric surface, leaving the grey fabric coarse, stiff and harsh to the touch.

In conventional finishing processes, massive chemicals and pumice stones are adopted to improve the comfort and fashionable appearance of denim.Meanwhile, a huge volume of water is consumed during finishing, resulting in severe water waste.
