Natural cotton, linen and other fibres are not pure white; they have a slight yellowish or brownish tint. Moreover, impurities on the fibre surface, such as pectin, plant waxes and lignin, also affect the fabric's colour. If these natural pigments are not removed, they directly interfere with the adsorption and fixation of dyes, causing the final dyed shade to deviate from the target colour. In addition, the inherent whiteness of natural fibres varies considerably, so direct dyeing often results in uneven colouration. Therefore, uniform bleaching before dyeing is essential to obtain a consistent white base, which allows the dyes to be taken up more evenly and accurately.

Prior to bleaching, the fabric must undergo scouring to remove hydrophobic substances such as pectin from the fibre surface, so that the bleaching agents can penetrate more effectively into the fibres. In the conventional process, factories use scouring agents andwetting agents for de‑oiling. However, under these process conditions, bleaching must be carried out for all towels, regardless of whether they are light or dark in color.

BBT's bio-scouring enzyme product, RF838‑W, contains a modified pectinase that can decompose pectin more efficiently. Once the pectin is removed, the fibre surface becomes much cleaner, resulting in a significantly improved basic whiteness. For dark shades (such as brown, gray, etc.), the fabric scoured with RF838‑W can go directly to dyeing without additional bleaching, because the high dye concentration is sufficient to cover the residual tone. For light-colored fabrics, although bleaching is still required, due to the improved cleanliness of the fibers, the amount of caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, and stabilizers can be effectively reduced, and bleaching time can be shortened.

In summary, RF838‑W not only improves fabric quality by enhancing the scouring effect, but also simplifies or minimises the bleaching chemicals. This solution represents an upgraded process in towel pre‑treatment that delivers both quality and cost benefits.
