During textile processing, de-sizing is an indispensable key procedure in the pretreatment stage. Residual starch size on fabrics will hinder dye penetration and directly affect the finished‑product quality of subsequent dyeing. Therefore, a simple and reliable testing method is required at production sites to judge whether the de-sizing process meets the required standards.
Tegewa is an evaluation index used to test the de-sizing performance. Since starch turns bluish violet color upon contact with iodine, iodine-potassium iodide reagent is made to react with de-sized fabric for a period of time to observe color changes. The standard color scale has 9 grades in total. Grade 1 exhibits the darkest color, signifying the maximum starch residue and the poorest de-sizing performance. Grade 9 shows the lightest color, indicating minimal starch residue andoptimal de-sizing result. The test result is obtained by comparing the color of the reacted fabric against the color scale. In general, a grade of 7 or above is regarded as a good de-sizing rate. As a convenient and efficient indicator for evaluating de-sizing performance, the tegewa test is suitable for rapid on-site inspection in factories.
Baico Biotech (BBT) is textile enzyme and household detergent enzyme manufacturer in China. BBT has launched a bio-scouring enzyme product featuring de-sizing function. Fabrics treated with RF838-W series textile enzyme can reach a tegewa rating of grade 8 or higher, delivering excellent de-sizing performance. Excellent de-sizing performance lays a solid foundation for subsequent processing, reduces defective products and improves product quality. Compared with conventional processes, enzymatic de-sizing treats fabrics gently without damaging their properties. Bio‑scouring can be carried out simultaneously with de-sizing treatment, which saves production time.
