With the continuous increase in water costs, energy costs, and wastewater treatment costs, reducing the number of washing steps during the pre-treatment process has become an important direction for towel manufacturers to optimize their production processes. Traditional towel pre-treatment usually includes desizing and scouring, bleaching, neutralization and deoxygenation, and bio-polishing processes. After desizing and bleaching, sufficient washing is required to remove residual chemicals, degraded sizing agents, and natural impurities. Among these processes, the washing step after desizing and scouring not only consumes a large amount of water but also requires reheating after washing, which increases steam consumption and extends the production cycle.
Because towels are woven fabrics, the warp yarns need to withstand high tension during weaving. Therefore, starch sizing agents are commonly applied to improve yarn abrasion resistance and weaving efficiency. After weaving, the sizing agents and natural impurities such as pectin and waxes in cotton fibers must be thoroughly removed to ensure good bleaching and dyeing performance. Conventional processes usually use amylase desizing combined with high-temperaturecaustic soda scouring. After desizing and scouring, degraded sizing residues, caustic soda, scouring agents, and natural impurities may remain on the fabric surface. If the fabric enters the bleaching process directly, these residues may affect bleaching efficiency and easily cause uneven whiteness. Therefore, most towel mills add an additional washing step after desizing and scouring before entering the bleaching and boiling process.
To solve this industry challenge, BBT developed RF838-W composite bio-scouring enzyme, which combines amylase, alkaline pectinase, wetting agents, and scouring agents through scientific formulation , RF838-W is 100% high concentrated bio-scouring enzyme. It integrates bio-desizing, bio-scouring, and wetting functions into one product. The amylase in RF838-W can rapidly degrade starch sizing agents applied during weaving. The alkaline pectinase selectively degrades pectin in cotton fibers and works together with wetting agents and scouring agents to promote the removal of waxes and other natural impurities. The entire desizing and scouring process can be completed at around 55℃ for 30 minutes.
Compared with conventional processes, RF838-W uses a milder and more specific enzymatic catalytic method. While effectively removing impurities from cotton fibers, it reduces the dependence on high concentrations of caustic soda and decreases chemical residues after desizing and scouring. Therefore, after the desizing and scouring process, the fabric can directly enter the bleaching and boiling process without a separate intermediate washing step. Since RF838-W caneffectively remove natural impurities such as pectin and waxes from cotton fibers, the fabric achieves better pret-reatment performance. As a result, the amount of caustic soda required in the subsequent bleaching process can be reduced by approximately 30% while still meeting the requirements for light-color dyeing. Compared with conventional processes, RF838-W eliminates one intermediate washing step during pre-treatment. As a result, it reduces water consumption, steam usage, and production time caused by draining, refilling water, and reheating, while improving equipment utilization and production efficiency.
