During the denim textile process, warp yarns are sized with starch-based starch slurry and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Sizing improves warp yarn tenacity and reduces end breakage, enhancing the yarn's resistance to mechanical loads during weaving. Although sizing denim warp yarns delivers multiple benefits to denim manufacturing, a protective film forms on the yarn surface. While this layer offers partial protection to the yarn, it creates a hydrophobic barrier that prevents washing chemicals and enzymes from penetrating thefabric, adversely affecting subsequent finishing processes. Consequently, the starch slurry must be eliminated from denim via a procedure called desizing. In modern industrial production, amylases are primarily utilized to cleave long- and short-chain starches within sizing compounds into water-soluble dextrins and maltose. These amylase-degraded fragments can be readily washed away using hot water.
