Pure cotton towels are popular products in the home textile market. In the production and processing of towels, fabric weight loss is a common process loss issue. Fabric weight loss in towels refers to the phenomenon in which, during production and processing, fiber components are lost or fiber structures are damaged due to factors such as chemical treatment and mechanical action, resulting in a reduction in fabric weight compared to the original fabric. Controlled and normal weight loss is a necessary part of fabric purification. In the conventional dyeing pre-treatment process, towel mills are required to carry out desizing and scouring at 70 °C using amylase, scouring agents, wetting agents, and caustic soda. Acidic cellulase is commonly used to remove surface pillings from the fabric to achieve a bio‑polishing effect. However, acidic cellulase has a strong ability to decompose cellulose. While it breaks down the surface pillings, it may also excessively hydrolyze the fibers of the fabric itself, causing fiber damage and thereby increasing fabric weight loss. To address this pain point, BBT has developed the RF838‑W(D) enzyme preparation, which offers a superior solution. RF838‑W(D) can perform desizing, scouring, and polishing at 55 °C and neutral bio-scouring condition, significantly reducing thermal energy consumption and the risk of fiber damage compared with the conventional process, while ensuring a desizing tegawa more than rating 8 . The specially formulated neutral cellulase contained in RF838‑W(D) removes surface pillings more gently without affecting the fabric's own fibers. The use of RF838‑W(D) canreduce the use of chemical agents in the conventional process, not only lowering the weight loss rate, reducing pilling issues, but also decreasing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) in wastewater.
The value of the RF838‑W(D) process optimization is mainly reflected in three aspects. First, the reduction in weight loss directly decreases raw material consumption, increases the finished fabric yield, and effectively expands the profit margin for manufacturers. Second, this process better preserves the fiber structure, improves the durability and hand feel of the finished towels, and helps companies establish a high‑quality product image. Third, the enzyme‑based process replaces part of the chemical agents, reduces wastewater treatment costs, lowers energy consumption, and aligns with the trend toward green manufacturing.
In summary, the application of RF838‑W(D) enzyme preparation not only provides a practical technical pathway for towel manufacturers to solve the weight loss problem, but also represents a beneficial exploration for driving the industry toward a more efficient and sustainable transformation.
