Biocatalysts are widely used in textile dyeing pre-treatment due to their high efficiency, specificity, mild reaction conditions, and environmentally friendly nature. For instance, BBT combined Bio-scouring enzyme RF838-K(D) can achieve both Bio-scouring and Bio-polishing in one step. Similarly, the neutral cellulase NEF®2100 allows for concurrent dyeing and polishing without compromising the dye chromophores, ensuring brilliant color yield and consistent fabric quality. In short, neutral cellulase significantly improves fabric absorbency and overall appearance.
Unlike Bio-polishing, the denim washing process pursues a vintage, worn-in look with distinct contrast patterns. To achieve a stone-washed effect by removing indigo dye in specific areas, acidic cellulase is typically preferred in the industry. This enzyme vigorously hydrolyzes the cellulose, efficiently stripping the surface-bound dye in a short time and greatly enhancing productivity. However, the indigo dye released under acidic conditions tends to redeposit easily onto the fabric, which can compromise the final appearance. Therefore, when using acidic cellulase, anti-back staining agents must be added during the abrasion stage to prevent dye redeposition and ensure the clarity of the desired patterns.
